It is often believed that communication requires verbal interaction. However communication actually begins in the first few days of life before infants can talk. From that point ongoing transactions with the physical and interpersonal environment, and the early caregiver-infant/child relationship, have a profound impact on a child’s developmental trajectory.
This one day workshop will bring together specialists in the areas of early language, development and attachment to provide a practical overview of the connection of positive parent-child relationships and increasing parent skills, in promoting early communication. This workshop will provide professionals working with infants and families with an understanding of the early pre-verbal groundwork for future communication, language, learning and mental health. Practical strategies for your work with families to promote and foster early language skills and family literacy will be presented. The importance of building collaborative partnerships and communication between parents and mental health professionals will also be discussed.
